We spoke to the founder of Samson & Sons, Tim Evans, about how Minoxidil works as a medication to treat hair loss.
Losing your hair is nothing to be ashamed of, but if you're keen on fighting-off hair loss while you've still got some strands left on your head, let us introduce you to Minoxidil.
Minoxidil is an antihypertensive vasodilator medication. What this means is that it's an over the counter treatment of androgenic alopecia - slowing hair loss and promoting hair regrowth in some people.
Minoxidil was also the first, and currently one of the only, FDA approved ingredients for treating pattern baldness in men and women.
To find out more, we spoke to the founder of hair loss treatment Samson & Sons, Tim Evans.
GQ: How does it work?
Tim Evans: With the help of its main ingredient Minoxidil, Samson & Sons is clinically proven to reduce hair loss and stimulate new follicle growth in four out of five people.
How was it derived?
A few years ago, my mate noticed his hair beginning to thin. So he did what any desperate man would do. He went to a hair clinic. There were lasers, tonics, shampoos, and a spin bowler or two. He paid thousands.
To our surprise, it worked. His hair loss slowed, and after a few months, reversed. Amazing.
But the program was seriously expensive. So we asked a chemist friend to analyse the solution. It turned out that the only active ingredient amongst all the lasers and potions was something called Minoxidil. You can guess what happened next. We had our chemist formulate a topical Monoxidil treatment for a fraction of the price. Not only did it work just as well, but the plain packaging meant you could display it in your bathroom without fear of embarrassment.
Word got around and we started making it for friends of friends. Eventually we were like "let's make this thing legit" and the rest is history. The popularity has been pretty incredible. I mean, if you could pretty much insure yourself against baldness for $20 a month, why wouldn't you?
At what stage of hair loss should you start using the product?
Samson & Sons works best if used at the first sign of hair loss -- treat it as a preventative solution.
When will you start seeing results?
The sooner you start using Samson & Sons, the better your results will be -- these are commonly seen after 3-4 months, so you should notice a difference by the end of your first supply.
Are there any other ways men can help prevent hair loss?
Sure - stressing less, drinking lots of water and incorporating certain herbs into your diet are some ways that assist, however minoxidil is one of the only ingredients approved by the FDA for treating pattern baldness in both men and women.
