According to the Daily Beast, the class action lawsuit filed by over 200 women in 40 states is against WEN by Chaz Dean and marketing company Gunthy-Renker. The lawsuit claims that the product caused hair loss, breakage, scalp irritation and a rash. It also says that WEN's advertisements are misleading in that they promised positive results. The creator, Chaz Dean, is well known for appearing on Reality TV shows and styling A-list celebrities, including Brooke Shields and Alyssa Milano. Shields and Milano even appear on the site and late night commercials promoting the $30 shampoo. According to WEN.com the product is supposed to "replace shampoo, conditioner, deep conditioner, detangler and leave-in conditioner" and includes "natural botanicals and herbs." The hair care line was so successful that in 2010 Forbesreported it had raked in $100 million in onl

Plaintiffs: Infomercial Product Made Our Hair Fall Out

Now there's some surprising news about the products: More than 200 women have joined a class action lawsuit against the hair care company and its parent company Guthy-Renker, claiming that WEN Cleansing Conditioner causes hair loss. While WEN has gained a cult following for its self-professed ability to "take the place of your shampoo, conditioner, deep conditioner, detangler, and leave-in conditioner", the products have also generated hundreds of negative online reviews. Interestingly, online reviews dating back several years mention hair loss occurring after use of the products, which may result in more people joining the suit. Anyone who has channel-surfed at 3 a.m. and watched celebrity hair stylist Chaz Dean work his magic on the manes of Brooke Shields and Alyssa Milano will be familiar with the WEN hair care range. Billed as a sulfate-free alternative to shampoo, WEN promises to "take the place of your shampoo, conditioner, deep conditioner, detangler, and leave-in conditioner." Garlic Juice For Hair Regrowth: 1 Week Remedy

Garlic juice for hair fall has been used over centuries. In ancient times, people used this pungent herb to treat hair fall, scalp infections and even dandruff. According to experts, it is suggested to use this effective remedy twice a week if hair fall is extremely bad and uncontrollable. Along with garlic juice, it is also important to oil the hair from root to tip as hot oil massages can generate hair growth. Studies also state that massaging the scalp with natural ingredients for half an hour twice in the week will promote better blood circulation in the scalp which also helps in hair growth. Experts who propose garlic juice for hair growth state that this juice has to be applied only to clean and washed hair. If the hair contains natural or essential oil before application of the juice, the remedy will not be effective. How To Prepare The Garlic Juice?Take three bulbs of this garlic and chop it finely. Now, grind it to a paste and strain out the juice. Store the juice in a

Gene therapy holds new hope for restoring hearing

Amanda James first noticed a difference early this year when she picked up a pill bottle at the Norfolk, Va., pharmacy where she worked and shook it next to her right ear. For the first time, she could hear the pills rattling inside. James, 29, has been hearing impaired ever since she slipped into a swimming pool as a toddler and nearly drowned. The accident starved her of oxygen and obliterated the fragile microscopic hair cells of her inner ear that turn the motion of sound waves into nerve signals sent to the brain. She lost almost all the hearing in her right ear and retained just enough in her left ear to get by with a hearing aid. But after receiving an injection directly into her right inner ear as part of a study at the University of Kansas Hospital, James seems to be slowly regaining some of the hearing she lost. The results so far have been "amazing," she said. "It's something new each month. I can hear music. I can hear your voice, but I can

Dr. Candace Spann gives new hope to women suffering from hair loss

Image courtesy of Dr. Candace Spann Hair loss is not an easy subject to talk about, especially for women. From almost the beginning of time, men have had access to wigs, transplants and medications to help deal with their challenged follicles. Women on the other hand have hidden the problem with wigs, hair extensions and hats, never really treating the underlying problem. After suffering her own bout with hair loss, Board Certified Dermatologist Dr. Candace Spann set out to create a regrowth product especially for women. After several successful clinical trials, ReTress was ready to hit the market. The four part system includes shampoo, conditioner, serum and supplements and is available at beauty retailer Sephora. Here is her take on how to navigate the world of women's growth products. Christa Emmer: We all remember the popular Hair Club for Men commercials that clogged up the airways, but we never really heard any mention about hair loss for women. Why do you think women a

Combing Through Hair Loss Treatments

Hair loss is a natural but unloved part of aging. But sometimes bald spots or thin patches are signs of a medical condition or dietary deficiency. The first step in seeking a remedy is finding out the cause. Male or female pattern balding, or androgenetic alopecia, is the most common type of hair loss. If you're concerned about thinning hair, here's what experts say about prevention, effective treatments and realistic goals. Check out the cause: Before you rush to the drugstore to buy some Rogaine, talk to your doctor or dermatologist, says registered dietitian Jim White, a spokesman for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Medical conditions or drug side effects or reactions may be underlying causes of temporary hair loss. Blood tests can also uncover nutritional deficiencies. If you're vitamin-deficient: A dietitian can help by addressing nutritional gaps, pointing out foods that promote hair growth and suggesting supplements if needed. Food is always the first
