Could cow urine treat your hair loss? Barmy ways to beat baldness

Some people actually believe that drinking cow urine boosts hair

Losing your crowning glory can have a devastating impact on both men and women.

It is the unfortunate first sign that you are getting old, but it can curb your confidence too.

From creams to hair thatching treatments loved by Wayne Rooney, there is an array of options that claim to stop hair loss in its tracks.

But as always, there are a lot of crazy methods too.

With 40 per cent of men noticing visible hairloss by age 35, according to The Belgravia Centre in London, it seems some men will literally do anything to maintain a good head of hair.

Here we take a look at some of the oddest claims.

Not many could savour the idea of drinking a glass of the yellow stuff, but some men in Agra, India, believe it can help beat their baldness.

Hindu followers from the Agra Gaushala Foundation drink freshly-squeezed urine from virgin cows, claiming it contains miraculous powers.

But it's not hair loss that it can fix, believers also reckon it can cure diabetes and cancer.

There is no scientific evidence so far to back up their barmy claims, with some medical experts reckoning the only result would be to make you feel ill.

Applying onion on to your scalp can boost hair growthOnion juice

This ideas stinks but don't let its smell put you off.  It may seem bizarre, but there might be some method in the madness.

Containing sulphur, onion has long been used as a natural cure, being used topically to stimulate growth. Sulphur itself helps make keratin for hair.

Rubbing raw onion into the scalp helps increase blood circulation which strengthen folicles. Its antibacterial properties also help to prep the scalp for hair growth by destroying bacteria that may be hindering hair growth.

Peel and chop an onion like you would for dinner and then blend until it becomes a juice.

You then apply to the scalp and on bald patches, leaving on for half an hour before shampooing.

But the putrid tip does seem to work. A study in 2002 revealed that 74 per cent of people who applied it twice a day for a month noticed their hair beginning to grow back.

Bull sperm is said to strengthen hairBull sperm

No-one said the road to hair regrowth was easy, and it really isn't judging by this vile-sounding method.

Extracted from Aberdeen Organic bulls, the sperm issued in many salons across the country, and even in the US, to help repair and restore hair.

For around £5 in the USA, spunky women at Californian salon The Broot can treat their locks to a hair mask containing the ingredient.

It claims to strengthen and promote hair growth but hairloss mentor Spencer Stevenson, who has advised men for 15 years, told the Telegraph he thought it was total bull.

He said: "If a protein treatment is to be beneficial, the molecules have to be hydrolysed (broken down). Sadly, bull sperm molecules are too large to make any meaningful impact to hair growth."

Maybe leave that one for the bulls.

Chillis contain capsaicin which is said to stimulate hair growthChilli sauce

Some like it hot and this spicy method claims to give your hairline a boost.

Hot pepper sauce Tabasco has been touted as a hair loss remedy because it contains capsaicin, which is said to stimulate growth.

In 2007, scientists tested this theory on both mice and humans and discovered it did boost hair growth.

But don't rub it in to your scalp anytime. Scientists have debunked the theory of its effectiveness topically, by stating that the mice in the study had it injected under the skin, as opposed to directly on top.

It seems unlikely that THESE fiery fans boosted their hair while tucking into the peppers at this chilli-eating contest.

Vaginal cream

More commonly used to treat yeast infections, many women have resorted to raiding their bathroom cabinets to apply it to their scalp instead.

Vaginal creams contain an anti fungal agent called miconazole, which is said to help stop hair follicles being killed off by hormone dihydrotestosterone.

Hundreds have claimed fit has really helped but it hasn't been tested yet by scientists on a person's scalp.

You would be better off speaking to your doctor before trying this one.

A Breakthrough for Hair Loss! PGD2 and Natural Ways to Regrow Your Hair

In 2012, the dermatology departments of the University of Pennsylvania and Johns Hopkins University generated a lot of buzz around a potential "miracle cure" for baldness. The big discovery? A relationship between prostaglandin D2 (a fatty acid derivative) and male pattern baldness, and hair loss in women. The researchers demonstrated, for the first time in humans, that a lipid derivative called prostaglandin D2 was elevated in balding areas – but not in hair-bearing areas – of men with hair loss. More importantly, they also discovered that prostaglandin D2 inhibits hair lengthening. The more prostaglandin D2 present, the shorter a hair grows. The team suggested that by maybe inhibiting prostaglandin D2 in the scalp, hair loss might be stopped. And that got a lot of hair loss sufferers (and pharmaceutical companies) excited. Prostaglandin-D2 inhibitors were already in trials as a treatment for asthma. It wouldn't be hard to develop a topical for men&#
