FOR MANY men the prospect of going bald as they get older can be a horrifying thought.

And it's estimated as many as two-thirds of men in the UK will be affected by hair loss in their life, which can often go hand in hand with a loss of confidence.

But an innovative treatment to reverse hair loss in both men and women is now becoming more popular than ever – especially with those who face the media spotlight.

Glasgow-based hair restoration clinic KSL hair have treated more than 2000 patients with successful Follicle Unit Extraction (FUE) hair transplants, including Scottish footballers Leigh Griffiths and Mark Connolly, and New Zealand All Black Xavier Rush. And the sports stars all credit the KSL team with transforming their confidence.

Celtic striker Leigh said: "Opting for a hair transplant was easy. With my head of hair I was going bald very very quickly, and getting a hair transplant seemed the only thing to get my confidence back.

"The procedure took about eight hours and it was pain free. The next day I was obviously a bit nervous – once you've had it done you don't really know what to expect. But now you can see that I'm reaping the rewards for it."

FUE involves harvesting hair from elsewhere on the body, before transplanting it follicle by follicle into the hairless parts of the scalp. Unlike grafting methods previously used in hair transplants, the process leaves no scars and can be completed in just one afternoon.

Leigh Griffiths has undergone innovative hair replacement treatment

Simon Lindsay, co-founder and CEO at KSL Hair, said: "The treatment is very straightforward as the extraction process is done all in one go.

"It's slightly uncomfortable at that point because you're lying face down for a couple of hours, but we try to keep you as comfortable as we can. We then stop for lunch, and the second part is the implantation process."

Although the treatment is popular with footballers and rugby stars alike, you don't need to have a similar bank balance to get the same results.

Simon said: "We ensure our services are accessible to everybody because we've created this scheme called 'pay as you grow'. It means exactly what it says – you can pay for your treatment as it grows. You can have an interest-free option, there's monthly payment plans and we're tried to make this affordable for everybody."

"You don't have to be a millionaire to have good hair. Our business has been built around customer satisfaction and we're the only company in the UK that provides aftercare in hair restoration – and we guarantee all our procedures."

Like many who hear about hair transplants, Leigh was skeptical about whether he would see results. But he soon noticed improvements and even recommended the treatment to friends.

Leigh said: "I think the biggest benefit is walking about the streets feeling confident about yourself.

"And on the pitch, I've scored a lot more headers than I used to!"

But while your hair is probably the last thing on your mind, it is part of an issue that not enough people talk about: postpartum hair loss. What Is Postpartum Hair Loss? During pregnancy, a lot of women may start to feel like Rapunzel due to their hair growing so fast and strong that you feel it could hoist a handsome prince up a tower (wouldn't that be great?). A Breakthrough for Hair Loss! PGD2 and Natural Ways to Regrow Your Hair

In 2012, the dermatology departments of the University of Pennsylvania and Johns Hopkins University generated a lot of buzz around a potential "miracle cure" for baldness. The big discovery? A relationship between prostaglandin D2 (a fatty acid derivative) and male pattern baldness, and hair loss in women. The researchers demonstrated, for the first time in humans, that a lipid derivative called prostaglandin D2 was elevated in balding areas – but not in hair-bearing areas – of men with hair loss. More importantly, they also discovered that prostaglandin D2 inhibits hair lengthening. The more prostaglandin D2 present, the shorter a hair grows. The team suggested that by maybe inhibiting prostaglandin D2 in the scalp, hair loss might be stopped. And that got a lot of hair loss sufferers (and pharmaceutical companies) excited. Prostaglandin-D2 inhibitors were already in trials as a treatment for asthma. It wouldn't be hard to develop a topical for men&#
