Every year at the Consumer Electronics Show thousands of cool new ideas and products emerge. It's like Kickstarter on steroids with innovation just around every corner. Some ideas and products are better than others, but it's a dazzling array that can almost overwhelm the senses when you attend one of these tech junkie conventions. The 2016 show was no exception. While there's always a little something for everyone, this year there was something for the follicly challenged. A device called the Hairmax Laserband 82 for growing hair caught a lot of people's eyes.

Maybe regrowing hair is a better term for what it's supposed to do, but either way the intention is to eventually give you a full head of lustrous locks where there previously were none — or very little, anyway. The device, which comes with a money-back guarantee, resembles an infrared headset that you slip on as if you were going to listen to music and it's worn for 90-second intervals three times a week. If you can't swing that, you really need to take time to make room in your life to breathe. During those 90 seconds the device pulses 82 medical grade laser modules into your scalp to stimulate new hair follicle growth by increasing blood flow.

Hair Restoration Products There is some science to back up the idea that increasing blood flow to the scalp can have a beneficial effect on hair growth or from losing the hair in the first place. Another factor with hair loss is researchers have found that sebum, a natural oil secreted to keep us moisturized, can block pores and lead to increased levels of DHT, a byproduct of testosterone, which is essentially the most common cause of hair loss in humans. The Hairmax Laserband and comb are said to actually reduce thinning hair and, in some cases, even encourage hair to grow back, creating a thicker appearance. The reviews on Amazon have been cautiously optimistic. The Science of Hair Growth

Hairmax appears to be like some of the other hair regrowth businesses in that they offer a variety of treatments tailored to an individual's needs and particular hair loss situation. They offer hair and scalp treatments, Minoxidil — which is the basic ingredient of products like Rogaine — supplements known to encourage better, stronger nail and hair growth, and a product known as Hair Fibers. Hair Fibers are "natural keratin protein hair building fibers that blend and statically cling to your existing hair to hide any receding areas and provide dramatic density, volume and natural looking coverage, instantly." The temporary results are pretty amazing.

Cure for Baldness The difference with Hairmax, however, seems to be that, unlike their competitors, you can purchase things like their Hairmax Laserband or Lasercomb without seeing them for an assessment first. No hair loss situation is one size fits all, so it's understandable that businesses in that line of work would want to see you first so that they have the best chance at successfully addressing your specific set of circumstances. Otherwise, they'd end up maligned by a lot of dissatisfied customers. The other difference with Hairmax is their laser products are a one-time expense versus the $600 to $900 a year you can spend on supplements, serums and creams you'd have to take for life.Hair Transplants Short of hair transplants — which have come a long way — the most any of the products that are out there right now can promise is some hair regrowth for a limited number of people. So far, none of them have worked 100 percent for everybody. If anything, probably fewer are helped than not. Dateline NBC did a segment on the subject with some interesting results, and Hairmax probably had the most encouraging outcome of the various treatments investigated. If you're interested in learning more about their study on the subject, check out the video below.

What Is Postpartum Hair Loss? During pregnancy, a lot of women may start to feel like Rapunzel due to their hair growing so fast and strong that you feel it could hoist a handsome prince up a tower (wouldn't that be great?). "Many women notice longer, more voluminous hair during pregnancy thanks to pregnancy hormone spikes trapping hair in the growth (anagen) phase of the hair cycle," Dr. Hawthorne explained. A Breakthrough for Hair Loss! PGD2 and Natural Ways to Regrow Your Hair

In 2012, the dermatology departments of the University of Pennsylvania and Johns Hopkins University generated a lot of buzz around a potential "miracle cure" for baldness. The big discovery? A relationship between prostaglandin D2 (a fatty acid derivative) and male pattern baldness, and hair loss in women. The researchers demonstrated, for the first time in humans, that a lipid derivative called prostaglandin D2 was elevated in balding areas – but not in hair-bearing areas – of men with hair loss. More importantly, they also discovered that prostaglandin D2 inhibits hair lengthening. The more prostaglandin D2 present, the shorter a hair grows. The team suggested that by maybe inhibiting prostaglandin D2 in the scalp, hair loss might be stopped. And that got a lot of hair loss sufferers (and pharmaceutical companies) excited. Prostaglandin-D2 inhibitors were already in trials as a treatment for asthma. It wouldn't be hard to develop a topical for men&#
