Hair thinning and hair loss can be traumatic for women to experience. But there are real solutions to restoring your tresses and ending the stresses! Read up on Dr. Wendel's expert hair care advice.
Dr. Wendel, what is the most noninvasive procedure a woman can consider to truly address hair thinning?
I recommend a shampoo and conditioner from the brand Tricomin, which utilizes copper peptides to help stimulate and nourish the base of the hair follicle, which is responsible for new growth. Minoxidil solutions are also popular, which are over-the-counter hair growth stimulators that cause weak and thin follicles to produce stronger and thicker strands over time. Apply it directly on the scalp on a regular basis in order to yield the best results.

Are there any causes for thinning and hair loss that women can control?
Sometimes hair loss has to do with stress, which can be controlled or alleviated through exercise, meditation and therapy. Hair loss can also be a side effect of medication. Patients should talk to their doctor if they see thinning hair after starting a new prescription. Unfortunately, the number one cause of hair loss is genetic. Although this is out of a patient's control, there are solutions for people who have hereditary hair loss, but it is essential to get treatment quickly.

How effective are the topical treatments out there?
The topical solutions can be pretty effective for hair loss, although it all depends on the cause of hair loss and the patient. Keep in mind that topical solutions are most effective in terms of maintaining the current amount of hair, but they don't usually form new hairs as effectively.
Any additional hair loss tips and tricks?
Supplements aren't the ultimate cure, but take a look at your diet and make sure you're eating properly. Fixing a poor diet is not going to miraculously make hair regrow, but a solid nutrition plan is always beneficial. You can also improve hair strength by taking the right supplements and vitamins such as biotin, zinc and copper. I'd also recommend taking a look at the way you're treating your scalp (such as using relaxers) and take note of how that affects your hair loss.
